I went to the airport with you and tried to leave Taiwan, but the officials did not let us through, because your mother had obtained an airport block to stop you leaving Taiwan. We went back home to my apartment in Xinyi.
The 17th August 2008 was the worst day of my life. I picked you up from nursery and took you to a restaurant where you liked to eat - you called it "Qing Tsai" after the spinach dish you liked to eat. After our meal, we walked home. On the way, three big men attacked me, and your mother jumped out of a car and snatched you.
I went to the police but they did nothing. I was just a foreigner in Taiwan and I never had a chance fighting for you, against your mother and her family.
For the next year, your mother gave me no contact with you at all. She wouldn't let me see you, or speak to you on the phone, she would even send me a photo. I suffered so much, missing you so much. It was as if I couldn't breathe, as if someone had stolen a big part of me.
Over that year I spent and lost a lot of money trying to get you back. I found a man who said he would help get you back and get you out of Taiwan. But he was a criminal, a liar, a terrible man and he took a lot of money from me.
I also found lawyers to help me, but because I was a foreigner, I was always going to lose. We obtained court orders to make your mother let me see you. However she disobeyed the court and they did nothing to punish her.
Finally, on 23rd August 2009, your mother finally let me see you, but only for three hours in her lawyer's office. It was a very happy day for me, to see you finally, but so sad too because you had forgotten me, and I couldn't communicate with you well because you didn't speak English any more. Here is a photo of that meeting.
I thought that your mother would start to relax and let me see you more, or speak to you on the phone, but she didn't. She also went to the police and filed charges against me for silly things like going into her e-mail, or writing a letter to her saying that she should let me see you.
Your mother just wanted to force me out of Taiwan so I would stop fighting for you. She knew that you used to be a Daddy's boy, and didn't want you to get close to me again. So she lied to the court and police and they believed her, because she is Taiwanese and I was a foreigner.
On 18th November, the court issued its final decision. It gave me hardly any rights to see you. I knew that the court would never make your mother let me see you. So I took the difficult decision to start a new life outside Taiwan.
